Chair in Mobile and Pervasive Computing

Faculty of Engineering
School of Computing
Reference: ENGCP0016
Closing Date: Friday, 9 March 2012

The world is experiencing a dramatic rise in the use of networked mobile computing devices, particularly smart phones and tablets, but also home entertainment, in-vehicle information, and personal bio-monitoring. Mobile and Pervasive Computing represents a rapidly evolving extension of the distributed systems paradigm, and from this exciting new position you will enable us to develop equally innovative approaches to research and student education.

Your talent will complement our existing teaching strengths and enable students to understand the process of developing applications, and adapt to new market developments. This will strengthen their practical experience with cutting-edge applications, and build closer relationships with industry. As this is inherently multi-disciplinary, you will use this as an opportunity to open up new avenues for problem-oriented studies in collaboration with other parts of the University - in particular with Electronic and Electrical Engineering.

Carrying out internationally leading research and providing leadership and guidance to colleagues, you will build research teams and promote the development of a vibrant and sustainable research culture, community and environment; All the time supporting and mentoring less experienced academic and research staff to promote career development and the nurturing of academic talent.

To do all this successfully, you must have a PhD or other doctorate in a relevant discipline and be able to demonstrate a track record of sustained delivery of ambitious and imaginative academic leadership. We will need to see evidence showing your research-led teaching and a track record of integrating research with learning and teaching to deliver world class student education and an exceptional student experience.

We will also be looking for you to demonstrate an ambition to sustain your own continuing professional development as an expert and a leader. This will enable you to make a dynamic, ambitious, energetic contribution to the development and delivery of our shared academic mission.
